Duration : 30-40 minutes


Chane (chickpeas) 1 cup boiled
Basmati rice 2 cups
Sliced onion 1/2 cup
Tomatoes 1/2 cup chopped
yoghurt 3-4 tbsp
Salt to taste
Ginger garlic paste 1 tsp
Red chilli powder 3/4 tsp (less or more)
Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
Green chillies whole 2-3
Achari masala ( fennel seeds 1 tsp ,fenugreek seeds 1/4 tsp,coriander seeds 1 tsp,) make a powder out of them
Amchoor powder 1 tsp
Kalonji 1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds 1 tsp
1 tbsp of mango pickle with it’s oil (make a paste)
Main and coriander leaves few (chopped)

For rice :
Bay leaves 1-2
Cinnamon stick 1
Whole spices 1-1/2 tsp

Method :

  • Boil rice with some salt, whole spices ,cinnamon and bayleaves ,when almost done drain in a colander.
  • In a pan heat oil and fry oinion slices when golden brown take them out , in same oil add cumin seeds, tomatoes fry them add ginger garlic paste,turmeric powder, chilli powder salt to taste, stir well add boiled chane, amchhor powder, dry achari masala, green chillies,mango pickle paste with some oil, kalonji seeds,and cook till the oil leave the surface.
  • In a pan make a layer of rice, brown onion,mint and coriander leaves,cooked chana layer and again rice layer with mint and brown onion,cover with lid tightly and simmer on low heat till done serve with raita and salad.
