Basmati rice 2 cups
Masoor (Whole black) 1/2 cup
Potato 1/2 cup cut in cubes
Curry leaves 5-6
Tomatoes 1/2 cup (chopped)
Sliced onion 1/2 cup
Oil 2-3 tbsp
Cumin seeds 1 tsp
Cinnamon stick 1
Bay leaves 1-2
Cloves 4-5
Cardamoms 1-2
Chiili powder 3/4 tsp
Whole green chillies 2-3
Ginger garlic paste 1 tsp
Few leaves of mint and coriander

Method :

  • Soak masoor daal in water for an hour and boil with 1/2 tsp salt.
  • Daal should be soft but not over cooked.
  • In a pan heat oil add cinnamon, bayleaves, cloves, cumin seeds, sliced onion, curry leaves saute till golden brown add potatoes chilli powder, salt , ginger garlic paste ,stir well add tomatoes and cook for 3-4 minutes.
  • Add boiled masoor stir for a minute, add soaked rice,salt whole green chillies ,some water, mint and coriander chopped leaves, cook on medium heat ,when half of the water is reduced cook on a low heat with covered lid till the rice is done.
  • Serve with raita ,salad.
